Base Bob 2 Freeze

Vs. Odd

Coaching Points:

LT: Inside to head-up to away, on. Inside to head-up off.  If nobody shows there go hard playside and look to help out downfield.

LG: Inside to head-up to away, on. Inside to head-up to away off.  Hard playside.

C: Head up to away to playside on. Away off. Look to double with RG.  Bob (FB) is coming thru the 2 hole, get out of traffic!

RG: Head up to away to playside on. Look to double with C. Get out of traffic!  If you and C wreck the NG, work up and seal the backside.

RT: Playside to head up to away on.  Do not block end man on line of scrimmage (EMOLOS) or #2.  Your block is key to this play; if we don't get your block this play doesn't work.

Abe (QB): Freeze step; open to right. Dive read is the first man off, head up to playside of C, usually an inside linebacker.  Ride Bob; if dive read does anything other than fill then give. If dive read fills on dive, pull the ball back and immediately go to pitch read. Pitch read (PR) is EMOLOS. Attack PRs inside hip, DO NOT CROSS HIS FACE.  If PR turns hips to you, pitch to Chad.  If PR widens with the play and doesn’t commit or turns his hips to Chad, look to turn up inside of him and keep. Chad will trail you downfield on keep so you can retain the pitch option if needed.

Bob (FB): Attack 2 hole hard, make a pocket and roll over the ball on the handoff.  Do not take ball, accept it. If dive read (DR) fills you’ll crash him. If DR doesn’t fill you’ll have the ball and have to beat the DR. Read his hips, keep your pad level low and get through the hole.

Chad (TB): Freeze step, work to 4x4 off Abe for pitch position. If Abe pitches, receive pitch and work off Zack’s block on #1.  If  keeps trail upfield maintaining 4x4 outside trailing position and stay alert.

Zack (FL): Block #1 any way he wants to go.  If Chad receives pitch he’ll work off your block.  If #1 fills aggressively we’ll work play-action off him to slow him down.

X (SE): Outside release, 9 pattern. Work hard to get upfield; if coverage doesn’t go with you we’ll come back to the play-action pass.  Don't get lazy, we're looking for how the CB reacts to your route.

Y (TE): Inside release, work up to #2 pass support defender - usually a strong safety.  Block him anyway he wants to go, but be aggressive.  If he gets too aggressive at filling on run we’ll come back to sending you to the corner on a play-action pass.

Coaches:

  • Watch #2 vs. Y. If #2 sheds aggressively can we play-action and go over the top of him with a corner route to TE?
  • Watch #1A vs. X. If #1A is lazy on his coverage can we play-action and go over the top to 5? Does safety help out over the top or pursue run away?  On run away backside corners will sometimes forget about their receiver; can we lull him to relax then go back that way with the pass?
  • Watch #1 vs. Zack. Does he fill and shed aggressively? Can we run a toss option against him?  How about a Chad/Zack quick swing?
  • Do they make any special adjustments to it?

Vs. Even 4-3

LG: Inside to head-up to away, on. Inside to head-up to away off.  Hard playside.

C: Head up to away to playside on. Away off. Look to double with RG.  Get out of traffic!

RG: Head up to away to playside on. Look to double with C; we really want to bury the DT. Stay out of the hole.

RT: Playside to head up to away on. Head-up to inside off.  Do not block EMOLOS or #2 Your block is key to this play.

Abe: Freeze step; open to right. Dive read is first man off, head up to playside of C.  Ride Bob; if dive read does anything but fill give. Chad: Freeze step, work to 4x4 off Abe for pitch position. If Abe pitches, receive pitch and work off Zack’s block on #1.  Use your speed.

Zack: Block #1 any way he wants to go.  If Chad receives pitch he’ll work off your block.  If #1 fills aggressively we’ll work play-action off him to slow him down.

Coaches:

  • Watch #2 vs. Y. If #2 sheds aggressively can we play-action and go over the top of him with a corner route to Y? Does FS cover over the top? If so can we run it as an out instead of a corner to keep away from him? Does corner drop into deep coverage to take it away?
  • Watch #1A vs. X. If #1A is lazy on his coverage can we play-action and go over the top to X? Does safety help out over the top or pursue run away?   If safety pursues run away can X beat 1A one on one even if 1A stays with him?
  • Watch #1 vs. Zack. Does he fill and shed aggressively? Can we run a toss option against him?  How about a Chad/Zack quick swing?
  • Do they make any special adjustments?
