Offensive Styles

This section is for articles, plays and information about coaching various styles of football offense.  I welcome contributions if you have an article you want to submit.

    Option - I Bone Series

  • Thoughts on Running the Option Offense - an article I'm developing with ideas and comments on coaching the option. (Updated 6/24/05)

  • Base Bob 2 Freeze - Our base option play.  This is the first play we introduce in spring football and much of the rest of our offense builds off this play.

  • Base Zack Bob 1 Freeze - Our base option to the quick side with motion.

  • Base Bob 2 Freeze Pass Max Swing 651 - Our first pass play; play-action off of our base running play.

  • Base Bob 2 Crash - Our next option play, this one is a crash option run similar to Power.  This play was inspired by a very similar play that Lou Holtz talked about running as part of Notre Dame's goal-line offense in the early 1990s.

  • Base Abe 8 Sweep - A quarterback sweep to the right.  First play we ran of the 1991 season, it went for 32 yards on that play.

  • Base Bob 2 Slice - An inside FB trap off of pitch action.  If defense is pursuing wide too aggressively we'll come back to this action inside to take advantage.  Has been a surprisingly effective football play for us in the past.

  • Base Zack 3 Counter - A "counter trey" back to the quick side off our power action.  We can also run essentially the same play as Base Chad 3 Counter just reversing Zack and Chad's responsibilities.

  • Base Zack Left Bob 1 Freeze Pass Max Swing 961 - Our second play-action pass.  This one compliments our quick-side freeze option.
