I decided not to try and make this a comprehensive list of every conceivable article and website, for that see http://www.google.com.  Instead I'm going to try and list a handful of sites in each category that I have personally reviewed, along with a few comments on each.  I welcome suggestions at thecoach@coachschorr.com.

General

  • The American Football Coaches Association - If you're at all serious about coaching football you should be a member of this organization.  Joining was one of the best things I did as a young coach.

  • American Football Monthly - "The Magazine for Football Coaches"

  • Wikipedia - A free online encyclopedia it actually has a fair bit of content (and growing) about American football.

  • Football Coach Central - A massive collection of links from technical sites to leagues, teams, player resources and so forth.  I don't think I've ever seen a larger collection of sites focused on coaching and American football.

  • Football Coaching Sites - A big directory of websites about coaching football.  Useful and well done.

Offense

Defense

  • Let's Talk Defense - Site focused, not surprisingly, on defense with some special teams content as well.  Could use some more content (so could I!) but has an active and interesting message board.

  • eTeamz: Defense Tips and Drills - Nice little page with a variety of information on defense.

Special Teams

Strength and Conditioning

  • Brian Clarke's School of Running - Good site with information about building endurance and stamina thru distance running.  I believe football is more a game of explosive power and speed, but a good foundation of endurance is very helpful.

Sports Medicine

  • Recovering From an Ankle Sprain - Useful article.  Mostly basics, stuff it's good to be reminded of.  Also has an interesting, if too brief, mention of rehab techniques to speed recovery.
